FOR LOVE OR MONEY

It is Sydney, 2010, where the major conflicts of the breaking millennium, the scramble for resources and the fight to survive in a collapsing environment, when every act and commodity is measured for profitability, when you don't count. An advertising whizz is laid off and his personal and economic world collapses. Computers worldwide crash. Feral street scavengers caught robbing his house, become allies in his  survival. They find a junk computer, on it find a corporate conspiracy leading to polluted water. An epidemic erupts. Emergency powers are invoked. They gather data on pollution from the watershed running the security blockade to enter the catchment to get water samples underground in old mine tunnels.They encounter weird forces, "elders", ghost ancestors who are the guardians of nature, who help them. Playing tag with security they return to suburbia where a media circus ensues and the villains exposed

INTERACTIVE CINEMA



WHAT IS CINEMA

Narrative Cinema is composed of the eleements of Character, Props, Setting , Action and Reaction. I had used actor improvisation in a blues screen enviroment. There I used trigger tapes- segments of existing movies- to prompt actors with backstory events or character behaviour to give a jump in point to start a creent scene. I also used preshot background "Cut -aways" as triggers for comment by a character. Thise could be inserted by chroma key and become part of shot content.

Much of this and work in "Private Eye-Public Eye" was based on "Dungeons & Dragons" Role playing methods and structures

COMPUTER GENERATED STORY

Two pieces of technology became "available" to

1. Use natural language to direct comuter generated characters to do things using "subject= verb- object" sentences usinf speech to text conversion and natural language parsing. This was "Improv" made by Ken Perlin and Athomas Goldberg at New Your University's Media Research Lab.

2. Generate narrative structures to direct characters within a "plot". Here characters were set up with Character "tendencies or traits" by setting numerical values for "Reliablitiy", " This was the creation of Chris Crawford's Erasmatron . It is now documented athttp://www.storytron.com

FOR LOVE OR MONEY

For Love or Money was an attempt to marry these two technologies together. 3D Characters and Sets were built with VRML and a plot line developed to constrain the story line but allow interactivity within each scene. Each scene had a condition which must me met to progress to the next .
